Fractioned CO2

October 1, 2024 by michaelboache

Fractional CO2 (carbon dioxide) laser treatment is an advanced skin-resurfacing procedure that uses a laser to create microscopic columns of thermal damage in the skin. Unlike traditional CO2 lasers, which treat the entire surface area, fractional CO2 lasers target small portions (or fractions) of the skin at a time, leaving surrounding tissue untouched. This allows for faster healing and less downtime.

The treatment is used to address various skin concerns, including:

  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Sun damage
  • Acne scars
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Skin laxity and texture issues

Fractional CO2 lasers work by promoting collagen production in the skin, which helps to smooth out wrinkles and scars, tighten the skin, and improve its overall appearance. Depending on the intensity of the treatment, recovery time can range from a few days to a couple of weeks, with side effects like redness, swelling, and peeling during the healing process

Refyne/Defyne

October 1, 2024 by michaelboache

Restylane Refyne and Defyne are dermal fillers designed to treat facial wrinkles and folds, specifically targeting areas like the nasolabial folds (lines around the nose and mouth). Both products are made from hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the skin that helps maintain moisture and volume.

Restylane Refyne is formulated to treat moderate wrinkles and is more flexible, allowing for smoother and more natural facial expressions. It’s ideal for less severe wrinkles and fine lines, making it a popular choice for those looking for subtle enhancements.

Restylane Defyne, on the other hand, is slightly firmer and is used to address deeper wrinkles and folds. Its thicker gel makes it effective for more pronounced lines, while still allowing for natural facial movements.

Both fillers use Galderma’s XpresHAn technology, which allows the fillers to move with facial expressions without looking stiff or unnatural

Voluma

October 1, 2024 by michaelboache

Voluma is a dermal filler from the Juvederm family, specifically designed to restore volume in the midface, such as the cheeks, and provide facial contouring. It uses hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance in the skin that helps to plump and hydrate the area. Voluma’s key feature is its Vycross technology, which gives the filler a thicker, more cohesive gel, making it last longer than many other fillers—typically up to two years

Volume often addresses age-related volume loss, enhances cheekbones, and smooth wrinkles. It’s a non-surgical option with minimal downtime and is generally well-tolerated, although mild side effects like bruising and swelling may occur. For those unsatisfied with the results, the filler can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase

Kysse

October 1, 2024 by michaelboache

Kysse refers to Restylane Kysse, a lip filler developed by Galderma. It is designed for lip augmentation and smoothing wrinkles above the lips. What sets it apart from other fillers is its use of XpresHAn technology, which allows the filler to move naturally with facial expressions, providing a softer and more flexible result. This filler is also known for its longevity, with effects lasting up to a year, longer than many other lip fillers, which typically last around six to nine months.

Restylane Kysse has been praised for its ability to offer a natural look and feel, enhancing lips without being overly stiff. The filler also contains lidocaine to minimize discomfort during the procedure. Its clinical trials have shown high levels of satisfaction, with 78% of patients reporting being satisfied with their results after a year(

Microdermabrasion(MegaPeel)

May 16, 2024 by michaelboache

Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive spa procedure that rejuvenates the appearance of the skin by treating sun damage, scarring, wrinkles and other unwanted skin problems. The MegaPeel® microdermabrasion system uses a gentle stream of tiny crystals to exfoliate the outer layer of the skin and produce fresher, younger-looking skin and a renewed appearance. It has been performed safely and successfully in the US since 1996.

During the MegaPeel procedure, the device wand will be moved gently across the targeted area to abrade the dead skin cells with minimal irritation. When performed in conjunction with a personalized skin care regimen, patients can achieve smoother skin, improved circulation, a more balanced skin tone and a reduced appearance of deep wrinkles and scarring.

This treatment is administered as a series of six 45-minute treatment sessions performed every one to two weeks. Patients may experience redness, irritation and flaking after each session, but can return to work and other regular activities as soon as desired. The results of this procedure will appear gradually, with full results developing after two to six months.

Scarring and moderate wrinkles due to sun damage and acne, or correcting age spots and other pigment problems, crystal microdermabrasion with MegaPeel® can make a beautiful difference to skin. MegaPeel® is the safest and most effective method available for wrinkle reduction, skin exfoliation, and pigment correction. Our microdermabrasion skin care equipment also rejuvenates skin by removing the dull, lifeless, sun-damaged epidermis and stimulating the production of new skin cells and collagen.

The MegaPeel® crystal microdermabrasion system provides superior treatment results, which translates into client satisfaction.

Vitalize Peel®

May 16, 2024 by michaelboache

The Skin Medica-Vitalize Peel® brings together the benefits of alpha-hydroxy and retinoic acids to create one of the strongest but safest and gentlest peels. The renewal process has been clinically proven to help pigmentation problems (such as age spots) fade and stimulate collagen production in cells underneath. You will begin to notice a dramatic improvement in your skin’s texture and tone, a decrease of superficial lines, and a healthier, more youthful look and feel.

The Skin Medica-Vitalize Peel® is safe and gentle for all types of skin. A prepping solution is applied, followed by the peeling solution, which in some cases may be repeated. You may experience some mild tingling or warmth for one to three minutes. This discomfort can be easily relieved by the use of a hand fan.

The next step is the application of Retinoic acid. When this is done, a yellow tinge will appear on the skin that will disappear within an hour of the procedure.

Within 48 hours you will notice a mild flaking that can be controlled with moisturizer. For more information on the Skin Medica-Vitalize Peel® contact us (909) 949-7500.

B-LIFT( Beta Lift)

May 16, 2024 by michaelboache

B-LIFTx® is a breakthrough scientific discovery that works wonders on your skin. A remarkable, dermatological procedure, B-LIFTx® is redefining the traditional superficial peel. This advanced skin renewal treatment features the popular beta hydroxy acid and is offered only by your dermatologist. It takes just five minutes, but its visible results appear to lift years off your face.

B-LIFTx® (BETA-LIFTx) is new science. It is an innovative formulation of salicylic acid (beta hydroxy acid) created by Douglas Kligman M.D., Ph.D., the inventor of Retin-A. The B-LIFTx® action is enhanced by an important technological advancement, the MICROSPONGE. This new technology allows B-LIFTx® to reach the fine lines and tiny surface imperfections on the skin’s surface. B-LIFTx® lifts dead, dull cells off the surface of your skin. The procedure stimulates a “burst of renewal” within your skin to bring healthy, young, living cells to the surface.

With B-LIFTx®, there is no downtime, your skin immediately looks and feels smoother and tighter. Your face may temporarily appear a bit

Visible Results

  • Fine lines and wrinkles become less apparent
  • Skin tones even out
  • Texture becomes more refined
  • Oily or acne-prone skin is improved
  • Enlarged pores appear smaller
  • Superficial scars appear reduced
  • Skin appears healthier and more youthful

Seborrhea

May 16, 2024 by michaelboache

Seborrhea, also known as seborrheic dermatitis, is a common chronic inflammatory skin condition that primarily affects areas of the body rich in sebaceous (oil-producing) glands. It manifests as red, scaly, itchy patches and is often associated with dandruff when it occurs on the scalp.

Causes and Risk Factors:

  1. Overproduction of Sebum: Excessive oil production by sebaceous glands.
  2. Malassezia Yeast: An overgrowth of this yeast, which naturally lives on the skin, can trigger inflammation.
  3. Genetic Predisposition: A tendency to develop seborrhea can run in families.
  4. Environmental Factors: Stress, cold weather, and changes in humidity can exacerbate symptoms.
  5. Health Conditions: More common in people with certain neurological conditions (e.g., Parkinson’s disease) or immune system disorders (e.g., HIV/AIDS).

Symptoms:

  1. Scaly Patches: Greasy, yellow or white scales on the skin.
  2. Redness: Inflamed, red skin in affected areas.
  3. Itching: Itchy skin that can become quite uncomfortable.
  4. Affected Areas: Commonly affects the scalp (leading to dandruff), face (especially around the nose, eyebrows, and behind the ears), chest, and other areas with high oil gland concentration.

Diagnosis:

  • Clinical Examination: Based on the appearance and location of the symptoms.
  • Skin Biopsy: Rarely necessary but can be done to rule out other conditions.

Treatment:

  1. Medicated Shampoos: Anti-dandruff shampoos containing ingredients like ketoconazole, selenium sulfide, or zinc pyrithione.
  2. Topical Antifungals: Creams or lotions containing antifungal agents to reduce Malassezia yeast.
  3. Corticosteroids: Topical steroids to reduce inflammation and itching.
  4. Calcineurin Inhibitors: Topical medications like tacrolimus or pimecrolimus for sensitive areas such as the face.
  5. Hygiene and Skincare: Regular cleansing with gentle, non-irritating products.

Fractional CO2 Laser Therapy

May 16, 2024 by michaelboache

Fractional CO2 laser therapy is a type of skin resurfacing treatment that uses carbon dioxide lasers to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This promotes the skin’s natural healing process and stimulates the production of collagen, leading to improved skin texture and appearance. Unlike traditional CO2 lasers, which remove the entire surface layer of the skin, fractional CO2 lasers target only a fraction of the skin at a time, leaving the surrounding tissue intact for faster healing.

Key Features and Uses:

  1. Skin Resurfacing:
    • Wrinkles and Fine Lines: Reduces the appearance of fine lines and deeper wrinkles.
    • Sun Damage: Treats sunspots and photodamage.
  2. Scarring:
    • Acne Scars: Improves the texture and appearance of acne scars.
    • Surgical Scars: Reduces the visibility of surgical scars.
  3. Skin Texture and Tone:
    • Pore Size: Can help minimize the appearance of large pores.
    • Skin Tightening: Promotes collagen production, leading to tighter, more youthful-looking skin.
  4. Stretch Marks:
    • Effective in improving the appearance of stretch marks.

Procedure:

  1. Pre-Treatment:
    • The skin is typically cleansed, and a topical anesthetic may be applied to minimize discomfort.
    • Patients may be advised to avoid sun exposure and certain medications or skincare products before the procedure.
  2. Laser Application:
    • The fractional CO2 laser is passed over the targeted areas, creating thousands of microscopic treatment zones in the skin.
    • The depth and intensity of the laser can be adjusted based on the specific condition being treated and the patient’s skin type.
  3. Post-Treatment Care:
    • Patients may experience redness, swelling, and a sunburn-like sensation immediately after the procedure.
    • Skin care post-treatment typically involves keeping the skin moisturized, avoiding direct sun exposure, and using sun protection.
    • Recovery time can vary, but patients often see significant improvements within a few days to weeks.

Benefits:

  • Effective and Long-Lasting Results: Significant improvements in skin texture, tone, and appearance.
  • Minimal Downtime Compared to Traditional Methods: Faster healing due to the fractional approach.
  • Versatile: Can be used on various areas of the body and for a range of skin concerns.
